Child First Academy-Advanced Early Learning – 6wks – 5yrs

As a family-owned business, Child First Academy highly values relationships and a personal approach in everything they do. CFA’s Advanced Early Learning Pedagogy is developed in conjunction with the groundbreaking research developed by Harvard University’s Center On The Developing Child.

CFA is the vanguard of early learning. For example, Harvard’s neuroscience research shows us that 80% of brain development occurs between birth and 3 years of age. Therefore, CFA’s early learning begins at the infant stage. When an infant enters our program, he/she is placed on a “launching pad” of learning and brain development.

CFA’s infant/toddler care, known as Pikler (https://pikler.org/about), is a strategic approach that maximizes brain development during this critical early period when the very “architecture” of the brain is being created. This is just one example of CFA’s advanced curriculum.

CFA has developed strong partnerships with some of the most renowned national leaders and practitioners in the field of early learning. For example – the owners of CFA are certified presenters for Teaching & Parenting With Love & Logic®…EQ, Choosy Kids, and Imagination Playground are others to name a few.

In addition to these unique programs, CFA also provides language enrichment, fine arts, organic gardening, pottery, and age-appropriate technology. CFA is also very proud to offer certified organic meals.

Da Vinci Waldorf School

Da Vinci Waldorf School’s Early Childhood program is shaped by the belief that young children learn best through hands-on experience, shared daily practices, and creative play—not classroom academics.

So while many preschool and kindergarten programs place a heavy emphasis on teaching reading, writing, and numeracy, we take a different approach. The aim of our Waldorf early education program is to help children cultivate creative minds, caring hearts, and capable bodies—and the confidence they need to thrive in the academic years ahead.

Every morning in every season, the children start their day outdoors. Because our curriculum is built partly around play, children are given freedom to engage their imaginations and their muscles, indoors and out.

Our school’s grassy campus, with its organic gardens and prairie, its rope swings and climbing trees and wooden playgrounds, provides a fine natural setting for twice-a-day exercise and exploration. Weekly hikes to nearby woods and field trips to local farms are among the ways we help students deepen their connection with the natural world.

In the classroom, the teacher and an assistant create a soothing environment as they guide students through the day’s activities, often enriching them with songs and stories. Tactile and sensory art forms like watercolor painting and beeswax molding are practiced ritually. Mythic tales are told while the children sit in circle. Together, classmates set the table for tea, prepare soup or roll dough for the day’s bread, and help tidy up afterward.

Classes are mixed in age, from 3 to 6 years old. Students of kindergarten age, known as our “Mighty Oaks,” are given additional responsibilities and leadership roles, as well as encouragement to extend helping hands to their younger classmates.

Each week unfolds with a familiar rhythm and sense of purpose, creating a learning rich environment where children feel secure, self-assured, and unstifled by premature academic pressure.

Childhood is the briefest of seasons, a time when young minds light up with sparks of creativity, curiosity, and imagination. At Da Vinci Waldorf School, we aim to fan those sparks into a flame that will light your child’s way forward.

Growing With Grace Preschool

Since the early 2000s, Growing with Grace Preschool, a ministry of Grace Lutheran Church, has served the families of Libertyville and the surrounding communities with programs for children ages 2-5 years old. Our programs provide a nurturing, stimulating and safe learning environment.

Our teaching approach includes a combination of child-centered and teacher-directed activities. We focus on developing the whole child through a variety of hands-on individual and group activities. We believe play is the center of a preschool experience and through it we teach a developmentally appropriate curriculum based on monthly and/or seasonal themes.

Children in our program have the chance to grow intellectually, socially, physically, spiritually and creatively all the while ensuring that when they leave our program and head to elementary school, they are well prepared to handle Kindergarten and beyond.

Our four guiding principles are: Love of Learning, Nurturing Environment, Spiritual Development, and Family Involvement. Our four practices we use in programming are: Exploration, Whole Child, Service and Play-Based.

We hope your child/family will come and ‘Grow With Grace”.

Nature Walk Montessori School – Organic Learning

At Nature Walk we view each student as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared environment. Ours is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child: physical, social, emotional, and cognitive.

Our goal is to aid the child’s development into a complete adult human being, comfortable with their own self, with their society, and with humanity as a whole.

Academically, Nature Walk students are exposed to a rigorous cosmic curriculum in which all areas of study are interconnected. Starting in pre-school, children explore with all their senses, using the classroom as a laboratory to understand the world around them: number sense, reading and writing, art, geography, botany, zoology, and physical sciences are areas of the Children’s House program.

Elementary students have a deep desire to know the reasons behind the inner workings of the world. They are offered key information that allows them to work in the abstract, finding patterns across subject areas. Lessons are meant to answer their questions about the Universe, to develop critical thinking skills and to spark curiosity.

Our Adolescent Program integrates rigorous academic studies with purposeful work, preparing students to become contributing adult citizens. Students explore advanced math topics, participate in language and book discussions, and conduct deep explorations in history and science. Collaborative planning and fundraising experiences allow them to experience real-world business expertise.

As a green school, Nature Walk is committed to sustainability and our campus is designed to teach environmental science. We strive to lead by example to practice ecological respect and responsibility. We step outside the classroom and connect students to nature using hands-on learning opportunities. We ensure that social responsibility is practiced in the classroom, the school, the school community, and the larger community.

St. John Lutheran School –

Proudly celebrating 50 years of Christian education in the heart of Libertyville this school year!

St. John emphasizes creating intellectual curiosity in a safe environment through experienced, caring teachers who truly get to know your child. We have achieved, and maintain, exemplary accreditation, and our teaching proudly includes a Project Lead the Way (PLTW) transformative STEM curriculum. Our SEVP-certified international school program has extended our reach in teaching to a diversity of students from across the world.

Our small class sizes, with a 12:1 student-to-teacher ratio, enable our teachers to learn each student’s strengths and weaknesses and what methods of instruction work best for the education of each child. Our teachers are trained to differentiate instruction to meet individual needs and offer additional help and resources.

St. John educates through a multigrade classroom model, which provides many advantages. Younger children in multiage groups strive to attain the academic levels they see the older children achieving while the older ones get the benefit of hearing and reviewing what was taught in previous grades. Children’s social behaviors also mature along with an increased feeling of accomplishment and a stronger teacher-child relationship.

“Our three kids have attended St. John since preschool. As young professionals, we value the high-quality, accredited education in a small classroom provided by St. John, and, as Christians, we value the Christ-centered, safe and caring environment in which that excellent education is taught. St. John combines both in a community-centered setting with great teachers who truly care about their students and love to invest in their intellectual education and spiritual foundation.” – K Family

“We are especially thankful for the attention to different learning styles of students and the individual attention the small faculty to student ratio offers. As a non-church family, we’ve also always felt welcome and part of the larger St. John family over the past six years.” – B Family

“Students are well-prepared for the rigors of a college-prep high school experience. The St. John team works hard to provide the foundation students need to be successful at the next level of education. We are thankful to be a partner school with St. John.” – Paul Scriver, President, Shoreland Lutheran High School

St. John is a member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), which has provided Christian education for over 150 years and manages the fourth largest private school system in the United States, operating 400 early childhood centers, 300 elementary schools, and 27 high schools.
