August Book Recommendations | Libertyville Area Moms

I’m always looking for great book recommendations, so I thought I’d start sharing mine with you!

Our neighborhood has a book club and we have been taking it to the driveways and backyards lately rather than our usual indoor get togethers. We are trying to meet as often as we can before the weather turns.

This month we are reading American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins.

Last month we read an uplifting and motivating book by Janice Kaplan called The Gratitude Diaries. This is one I will refer back to often, especially during these times. An attitude of gratitude is a great way to live.

This book led me to another timely book. Kaplan had the chance to interview Barack Obama and this exchange led him to write a children’s book which was inspired by a letter to his daughter’s. My children love this book and we read it often. It highlights 13 Americans and their characteristics that make them noteworthy.

Now that my son is 8 I am excited to start reading him the Harry Potter series! My friend recommended the illustrated version since it has some pictures that capture their attention and help boost their imagination to picture the characters and settings.

My Mom pulled out all of my old series books from when I was a little girl. This coincided nicely with the debut of The Babysitters Club on Netflix. It was so fun to watch it with my kids. In case you don’t have the copies saved from your childhood, here is a link to the retro copies.
