Meet A Mom: Jade | Libertyville Area Moms

Dr. Jade Dellinger

Where are you from and how long have you lived in town? What brought you to the area?

I currently live in Libertyville with my husband and our son. I’ve lived in Libertyville most of my life. I grew up in Green Oaks and went to Libertyville High School.  After leaving the area for undergrad at the University of Illinois and then completing Chiropractic school in Davenport, Iowa, I came back to the area to practice with my sister in our hometown!

Do you have child(ren)? Age(s).

I have a brand-new baby boy, Jamison, who is 6 weeks old.

What are your favorite things to do in the area with and without your kids? Family friendly restaurant? Date night?

I love everything in and around Libertyville. I’m fortunate to work with my sister and have a mom who owns a business around the corner so we frequently do dinner at the Green Room and 545 North (so sad they are gone!).  We haven’t ventured out too much with the new baby, but are looking forward to all the wonderful family friendly locations as well as activities when he gets a bit older!  When we get our next date night, Firkin is top on our list!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor or in the corporate world? Please share!

Taking time away with a new baby has been very challenging.  Being part of a small business, work does come home with you and it’s hard to feel not caught up with things you thought you would get done. I have the privilege of working with my sister, Dr. Jordan Leasure, as a pediatric and pregnancy focused chiropractor at North Shore Pro-Active Health.

I’ve been a chiropractor for over 10 years and my passion has been working with pregnant women and children.  There are a lot of concerns with the health of our country as a whole, and that has to change at a local level, with our children. I’ve found a lot of information new mothers are provided is either not current, or inaccurate with what the research says and this starts our children off on the wrong foot. As adults, we can choose to be healthy, or not. We affect our own future. Children have someone choosing for them, and I wanted to be their advocate.  I think innately we all want the best for our kids, and don’t purposely choose foods or behaviors that may negatively affect their health in the future.  We do the best with the information and resources that we have.  I just want to expand that information, and those resources to help make future generations healthier than those in the past.

I try to get involved as best I can with organizations and events that focus on women and children.  I am currently on the Board of Directors for Twice As Nice Mother And Child, a local non-profit that supplies diapers and other necessities to families in need. This incredible organization helps over 500 children LOCALLY every month.

We are more powerful as a community and our office loves to get involved. You’ll find us at local gyms passing out protein shakes from our subsidiary, Salutogenic Life, or even at a branch of banks giving chair massage for employee appreciation, or volunteering at Girls on the Run this summer!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

The community is everything. My sister and I always talked about working together when I completed Chiropractic school.  She decided to open North Shore Pro-Active Health in Libertyville not only because we grew up in the area, but the incredible community support.  Our practice has grown due to referrals from patients and other community members.  We’ve been able to team up with other local businesses to help improve the health of Libertyville and the surrounding areas.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I spent a week thinking about this question and wondering what would people want to know.  My takeaway is that what you may not find as interesting and unique, is exactly what makes you interesting and unique.

I’m an open book, but I’ll share a few things people may not already know!

  • Against my better judgement, I started online dating and that’s where I met my husband!
  • I spent two weeks in Brazil offering chiropractic care to children in an HIV clinic, children at an orphanage, as well as other community members who didn’t have access to chiropractic care. People were lined up around the block for the entire day.  I would love to go on another mission trip in the near future!
  • I have a 20 year old gecko, named Slick. He was a gift from one of my best friends in high school and has since outlived all other pets I’ve had.
  • In high school, my sister and I were both all-conference and Varsity for all four years in bowling – happy to take on anyone on the lanes!
  • I love home improvement projects. Demo, flooring, tiling, I’ve done it all.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another Mom?

I am surrounded by some incredible women who are mothers, including my mom, my sister and some of my best friends. Collectively, they have all reminded me to put my oxygen mask on first.  Especially after having a baby that spent time in the NICU, they told me that self-care is never selfish, and you can care best for those around you, when you are your best self.  I try to share that with my patients, especially those who are pregnant or post-partum, the importance of caring for themselves!

What is next for you?

Getting back to the grind!  I have a lot of things in the works to help women who are pregnant, or hoping to become pregnant have the pregnancy, labor and delivery they desire.  This also includes being a resource for the 4th trimester!  The time post-partum where most people focus on the baby, I want to extend support to moms. Stay tuned!
