Meet A Dad: Sam | Libertyville Area Moms

Where are you from and how long have you lived in town? What brought you to the area?

Sarah and I both live in Evanston. We’ve been here for just about 5 years after moving from Chicago.

Do you have child(ren)? Age(s)

We have three boys. Leo age 5. Max age 4 and Sol age 2.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor or in the corporate world?

My wife and I own The Fat Shallot. It began as a food truck and had expanded over the past 8 years to two food trucks, a restaurant and a food hall location.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

We love to cater to the Libertyville area and have done tons of events there and built a great relationship with the community over the years.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I spent a decade working in fine dine restaurants and some super fancy places around the country before deciding to take the plunge into food trucks as our first venture on our own.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another Parent?

-You’ll miss it when it’s over.

What are your favorite places to travel near and far and why?

-We love Wisconsin for a short trip since it’s where my wife went to college and where we got married. Farther flung, I love Spain as it’s where I spent time cooking professionally and I grew to love the culture.

Which podcasts and/or TED Talks inspire you the most?

-My standby podcast favorites are Radiolab and This American Life. Recently I’ve been enjoying Song Exploder as well.

Tell me about your favorite books. I love receiving fiction and non-fiction recommendations!

-Having lived in New Orleans for 5 years before Chicago, I grew to love Walker Percy. His novel The Moviegoer is one of my all time favorites that many people have never heard of.

What is your favorite thing about the Libertyville Area Moms Network?

-Great recommendations that people in the area can find useful in their day to day.

What is next for you?

-Continue slowly growing The Fat Shallot, getting ourselves and our business through the COVID pandemic in one piece.
