Wanderlust Travel Stories: Niagara-on-the-Lake | Libertyville Area Moms

New Interview Series!

Wanderlust Travel Stories is a new Interview Series we are so thrilled to start! Dreaming of future travels and past adventures has helped us get through this different year. I have always been intrigued and fascinated by other cultures and places. For me, part of the fun is the anticipation up to a trip, the research, and learning about all of the options to do in a destination. Just like resources, I love to receive word of mouth recommendations from local families and this is a fun way to do that. Thank you for sharing your travel stories with me and the LAM community!

We hope this new series inspires more vacations together that creates family memories that instill a love of travel, learning about different places, people and ways of life in your children.

Wanderlust: A strong desire to wander or travel and explore the world.

Niagara-on-the-Lake by Laura Chapell Bernstein

“I have been living in the Libertyville area for about 8 years now but I was born in Toronto, Ontario and moved to the US with my family when I was 14.  My husband Dave is from this area is the reason I am in Libertyville! I have two lovely boys who keep me busy but I am also run a clean beauty business through Beautycounter and I am a board member at the Libertyville Co-oporative Nursery School.  I love being a part of this community!”

-LAURA

Fun Fact: I met Laura while on a Sled Hill in Delavan, Wisconsin and we owe it all to Sports 11 since she was sporting the VILLE hat! Otherwise we may not have sparked a conversation and found out our connection!

Niagara-on-the-Lake

Niagara-on-the-Lake Ontario (or NOTL, as the locals call it) is only a few minutes away from the beauty of Niagara Falls but feels like a world all its own.  Thanks to the unique climate in the region, Niagara is filled with over 50 wineries making world class wine.  Add in a collection of great shops, theatres, restaurants, golf courses and horse drawn carriage rides, it is a lovely destination for a weekend away with your partner or friends.
From the Chicago area it is a quick flight to Buffalo and a drive across the Canadian border (once the border re-opens).  The town is filled with Bed & Breakfasts where you can enjoy your visit with a personal touch, or book a room at the historic Prince of Wales Hotel and enjoy the spa and a traditional afternoon tea. (pictured below)
NOTL has something to offer no matter what the season.  In the Spring & Summer you can rent bikes to independently visit the local wineries or take part in one of the many guided tours.

In the fall you can enjoy the changing leaves and take a “ghost walk” of the town, ending at the Angel Inn, the area’s oldest pub established in 1789 with a ghost story all its own.
If you plan a visit during the holiday season you can take part in the annual Candlelight Stroll and listen to carollers while you walk the streets of town to enjoy the holiday lights.  You can also enjoy a Christmas themed play at one of the famous Shaw Theatres.
I find the website “On the Luce” helpful and was introduced to the shop and restaurant pictured below from Lucy’s blog!

NOTL is such a gem!  I am especially close to the area as my parents currently live there – it is always a treat when we get to visit.

My sister was married at Chateau des Charmes Winery and we have celebrated many family events in the area (if you want to really celebrate, book a barrel room dinner at one of the wineries!).  So many great memories made there and many more to come.

Want to plan a trip with the kids?  NOTL is only about 20 minutes down the road from Niagara Falls, which has fun for all ages!
