Meet A Mom: Sarah | Libertyville Area Moms

Tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a Midwest girl through and through! And, I’m the very proud mom of three crazy but fun and sweet boys. We’re die-hard Chiefs fans; it’s right mix of chaos and love which that allows me, as a busy mom a very special bond with her boys. Going to games together, watching them on Sundays, sporting the Chiefs gear- it’s our thing. We’re a little crazy but it’s ours and I wouldn’t trade a minute of any of it.

Living in Libertyville, we’re away from immediate family but between our amazing friends, the Oak Grove School community, and Heather’s Gym community, we’ve created our own local ‘family’.

What are some of your favorite things to do in the area?

When I’m not in the stands cheering my boys on at their various activities, or trying really hard to obey the “silent” soccer day rule, I love to exercise and be active! Whether it’s going to the gym, or walking, running or biking with a friend, I just love moving and being social. I enjoy trying new things and challenging myself.

You’re an Instructor at Heather’s Gym – do you have a favorite class you teach?

While I love the HIIT (high intensity interval training) classes I teach at Heather’s Gym, my happy place is truly on the bike at HG Cycle. PowerRide is my favorite to teach because it involves focus, intensity and determination. It’s 45 minutes of heart-pumping cardio that forces you to forget about everything else, push beyond your limits and get lost in the experience. There’s just something incredible about the energy in the room during a cycle class.

I was a Heather’s Gym member for several years before making the leap from ‘in the class’ to ‘leading the class’. And, because I know and distinctly remember what’s it’s like to be new to a class or recovery from an injury or just tired from life – I feel like I am really able to connect with members old and new on a very real level.

As a busy mom, friend, employee – what piece of advice or personal mantra has helped you?

You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of everyone else” – I am just beginning to really realize the truth to these words.  As moms, we wear many hats and it’s often hard to find balance.  For me, that’s meant focusing on exercise, getting more sleep, eating right, and drinking more WATER!! It’s progress, not perfection.  And just as important, it also means spending time in healthy relationships with people who inspire and support me. Mental health is as important as physical health.

What does your year ahead look like?

My intention for 2020 is “growth and gratitude”.  Always learning, striving to do better while at the same time being thankful for what I have and where I am.
