Meet A Mom: Lindsey - Libertyville Area Moms

Lindsey Lee, wife, mother of four, and Instructor and Program Coordinator at Heather’s Gym

People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed; never throw anyone out.” – Audrey Hepburn

Tell us a little about yourself.

I have the privilege of being Mom to four incredible kids: one budding intellect who reminds me daily that I don’t have it all figured out; two rambunctious middle school boys who keep me laughing and remind me that life is really stinkin’ fun; and one feisty, world-changing girl who makes me appreciate my own mother more than ever. Though I didn’t carry all of them in my belly, the 11, 12, 14 and 16-year-olds that I tuck-in each night call me Mom and I couldn’t be more grateful.

My husband, best friend and chief sounding board, Christian was relocated here with Abbott Labs, so our family moved to Libertyville in June of 2017. I’m originally from Carmel, California. Thankfully made a few stops along the way before moving to Lake County, otherwise I would have found these winters too brutal!

One of the first things I did when moving here was look for a fitness community. I did a lot of research and found Heather’s Gym which has been the perfect fit for me. The members are like family and each instructor is so invested in the members’ experience, I knew it was where I wanted to be. I teach cycle classes at HG Cycle, and at the studio on First Street I am a new yoga instructor having just completed my 200 Hour RYT Certification. I also teach Power Sculpt, and a high-energy dance fitness class called U-JAM.

What are some of your favorite things to do in the area?

My family loves being active outside, exploring and enjoying any activity outdoors together. We have some wonderful parks in Lake County like Independence Grove, that we visit often. When the weather is nice, we take advantage of as many outdoor activities as possible including Lunch in the Park and the Farmer’s Market. My family is also very involved at Crosslife Church.

You’re an Instructor at Heather’s Gym – do you have a favorite class you teach?

I love all the classes I teach but U-JAM is my favorite! U-JAM is the perfect escape for 45 minutes of fun and sweat while everything else waits. U-JAM forces even the most serious person to step out of their comfort zone, embrace their inner Beyoncé, and have fun!

U-JAM is not just about fitness, it’s also about unity and community. I love to see someone who was new and unsure of what to expect in their first class walk in the next class rockin’ a flannel shirt and gold hoops – confident and ready to move and laugh! U-JAM reminds us that our differences disappear when we walk out on the dance floor!

As a busy mom, wife, friend, employee – what piece of advice or personal mantra has helped you?

Those of us who are in the trenches of motherhood know that the day can feel long and is often filled with failures that can mask the victories. All of us need a reminder to choose joy and feel like the work we are doing matters. I love this quote from Mother Theresa: If you want to change the world, go home and love your family. I am so incredibly grateful for my network of friends – my tribe, who remind me of this truth. After all, parenting is not for cowards and it truly takes the support of a village.

What does your year ahead look like?

Lots of driving 4 kids around to their activities! I also have an exciting year ahead helping to grow the HG Yoga Program – we are adding infrared heat panels so there is a lot of excitement happening. In addition, I coordinate our growing corporate fitness program, which is changing people’s lives by bringing fitness to their workplace. I look forward to continuing to inspire people to love their bodies and have fun in every workout. I try my best to approach every interaction and every relationship in my life with Audrey Hepburn’s mantra in mind, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to do just that!
