Meet A Mom: Kelsey | Libertyville Area Moms

Where are you from and how long have you lived in town? What brought you to the area?

I grew up in Round Lake. After college my husband and I moved down to the western suburbs due to work. We finally made the move back up to Lake County last year, which is where all our family live.

Do you have child(ren)? Age(s)

I recently became a mom this year! We have a beautiful girl who was born March of this year. The pandemic has added an extra obstacle being a first time mom. We have been able to really put the focus on family during this new chapter in our lives due to the pandemic.

What are your favorite things to do in the area with and without your kids? Family friendly restaurant? Date night?

Our family is on the hunt for all the kid friendly activities and restaurants in the area. Right now we have been taking advantage of the wonderful summer we have had and going to our forest preserves for walks.

Date night my husband Mike and I like going to a restaurant where we can catch any game that may be on. We tend to find ourselves at Mickey Finn’s in Libertyville.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor or in the corporate world? Please share!

I am the Community Center Operations Manager at the Mundelein Park and Recreation District. I oversee our NovaCare Fitness Center and operations within the Mundelein Community Center.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

I got my degree in Parks and Recreation knowing I wanted to work in park districts. I have really enjoyed being able to serve communities. Offering recreational services is not only fun, but the fulfillment of seeing the community in which you serve be able to come together and knowing you have impacted your community in a positive way, is what drives me to do what I do. The Mundelein community has been the most rewarding yet, this truly is a great community that is diverse and excited to come participate in our programs and events.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another Mom?

The best piece of advice I have gotten from multiple moms is “Embrace the crazy. Because it will be crazy.” It’s simple, but really helps me to remember that this is motherhood and it’s best the thing to ever happen to me.

What are your favorite places to travel near and far and why?

Put me on a beach and I am happy.

What is next for you?

Right now being a first time mom I am excited to focus on my family and enjoying where I am at within my career. I worked really hard to get to the spot I am within my field and I am at a great park district and I want to enjoy that.
