Meet A Mom: Erin | Libertyville Area Moms

Erin Kahn, @properties Broker

Where are you from and how long have you lived in town? What brought you to the area?

I’m from Libertyville, born and raised!  So is my husband. We both graduated from LHS.

Do you have child(ren)? Age(s)

Yes.  I have two sons.  Liam is 9 and Evan is 8.

What are your favorite things to do in the area?

We love to bike in the summer.  Our favorite route is to “three mile bridge”.  From our house, we bike to the Casey Trail and we have our favorite bench where we eat our bagels that we grab from Einstein on the way.  It’s a special family spot for us, overlooking the beautiful prairie. Both of my kids lost a tooth on the bench last summer. Milwalky Taco is our family favorite for dinner.   We also love the summer concerts in Independence Grove. You’ll find us at Lake Minear Beach or Adler Pool in the summer. We’re a pretty outdoorsy family. We’re always hiking, biking, boating or taking adventure travel trips.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor or in the corporate world? Please share!

I’m a Realtor with @properties here in Libertyville.  I have always loved real estate from a very young age.  When I turned 16, the first place I drove to on my own was a model home development.   True story! I also do interior decorating and furniture painting. My husband and I have been investing in real estate since 2004.  We’ve moved more times than I can count. We love old homes and we’re all about saving them. I’m on the MainStreet Libertyville Design Committee.  We’re in the midst of planning our annual Historic Home Tour, which will be on June 8th this year.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

Libertyville is home, and always has been.  I know Libertyville like the back of my hand.  Because I’ve always lived here and our families are here, I’ve really been able to focus on helping people buy and sell homes here.  I know the market so well. I know the neighborhoods, the people, the schools, the community and all the wonderful things that make this town so special.

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

I have a photographic memory.  It’s not what it sounds like, I still get mom brain.  But I remember things visually and I always remember odd details.  For example, I recently showed a couple a home and I remember how many vents were in the master bedroom.  It’s strange. I can also tell you how many buttons are on the TV remote. Now, if I could just remember to switch the laundry to the dryer……

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another Mom?

My mom gave me the best advice I’ve ever received.  I was home from college and I was sitting in the LHS gym watching my little brother’s graduation from Highland.  I looked around and said to my mom: “I never thought my high school would feel small to me.” She replied with: “That’s the funny thing about life.  One day something will seem so big and the next time it will feel so small. That’s why you should never let anything in life intimidate you.”

What is next for you?

Next up is the Historic Home Tour.  I’m excited to be a part of the planning this year.  Summer is right around the corner so I’m sure I’ll be painting furniture again.  And of course selling homes! I really love helping people with their real estate decisions.
