Let’s meet local mom, Alison Lockowitz!
Hello! Please introduce yourself.
My name is Alison Lockowitz. I am a local mom of 3, school-based Speech-Language Pathologist in Lake County, avid reader and lover of crafting. I was born and raised in Libertyville, where I attended Copeland, Highland and LHS class of 2000. I always knew Libertyville is where I wanted to raise my own kids! My husband is also from Libertyville, so our roots run deep in this town. Our three children attend Oak Grove School (8th, 6th and 2nd grades).

What are your favorite things to do in the area with and without your kids?
My favorite things to do in town are shopping and eating on main street, relaxing on Lake Minear beach in the summer sunshine and walking with friends in the forest preserves or neighborhood streets. My husband and I have been enjoying date nights in this town since we were 17 and we love having all the great restaurants in our dinner rotations- many still in town since then but also always great new spots to check out as well!
In addition to the restaurants you mentioned, can you share your TOP 5 favorite local businesses?
Well, of course my favorite main street business in Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory– my in-laws are the owners! It has been a Libertyville staple for two decades and we love how the whole town supports their business. As for spas my favorite would be Salt of the Earth– it’s such a unique experience! I love to shop at My Sanctuary Boutique and I have been doing pilates at Club Pilates for over 5 years. Way to go women owned businesses!
Which podcasts and/TED Talks/books inspire you the most?
I’m most drawn to historical fiction genre or romance and I am currently in two book clubs with other Libertyville moms.
What are your favorite places to travel near and far and why?
I absolutely love to travel! Showing your kids the world is such a gift. Last year our family spent a month abroad in Italy- truly a trip of a lifetime. Not all trips are so grand though, and we also enjoy visiting National Parks on long road trips for some adventure!

Tell us about your camp!
This is the 3rd summer I will be running my Doll Craft Camp. The idea came about during Covid where we spent a lot of time in the house trying to entertain our kids. My daughter has always loved collecting her American Girl dolls (I cherish my childhood dolls as well) and she has a very creative spirit so we were making all sorts of clothing, accessories, back drops etc for her dolls. The crafting just continued to build on itself and it got to the point where I thought, “I think a lot of kids would enjoy doing this with us.” As a school-based Speech-Language Pathologist I have the summers off, so I thought- what about a camp at our home? But then it became too big, and Oak Grove School has graciously allowed me space the last 3 summers to run the craft camp from there!
What do you do in your position?
Why do you love your job?
What else would you like us to know about your business?
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
I could not have got this camp off the ground without the support from local moms entrusting me with their children and many coming back year after year! A small venture like this is truly word of mouth and the word has gotten out!
What is your favorite thing about the Libertyville Area Moms Network?
What are one or two fun facts about yourself?
Thanks to Alison for allowing us to feature her and sharing info on her unique camp! If you would like to learn how to be featured, email LAM at [email protected].
