Meet A Mom: Ali | Libertyville Area Moms

Where are you from and how long have you lived in town? What brought you to the area?

-I grew up in Northbrook and moved to Libertyville, in 2008 when I accepted an RN position in Labor and Delivery at Advocate Aurora Condell Medical Center.

Do you have child(ren)? Age(s)

-I have 2 daughters, a 4-and-a-half-year-old and a 1 year old. I am also expecting twin girls in a few short weeks!

What are your favorite things to do in the area with and without your kids? Family friendly restaurant? Date night?

-I really enjoy getting outdoors, often going to local parks and forest preserves. We love that Independence Grove is so close by, as we got married there! We also take our children to Goldfish Swim school in Mundelein and frequent story time at Cook Memorial Library, as well as the Farmer’s Market on Thursdays!

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor or in the corporate world? Please share!

-I am the OB Assistant Clinical Manager in the New Life Center at Advocate Aurora Condell Medical Center and am very proud of the amazing strides our staff has taken over the last decade to care for pregnant women in our community! We also recently finished construction for both an outpatient lactation clinic as well as a pristine special care nursery with all individual rooms. Our unit has the highest level for a nursery in the county, which allows preterm infants to stay close to home.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

-It is always nice to be out and about in the community and see a patient/family that I have taken care of on our unit. I coordinate our perinatal loss program at Condell and it is nice to see moms who have delivered healthy babies, as well as fetal losses around town going about their every day activities. It really motivated me to help advocate for healthy moms and babies! We are all in this together as parents in Libertyville!

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

-I grew up going to the Northwoods in the summers and was a member of a Water Ski Show Team!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve gotten from another Mom?

-Relax. Don’t let being a mom change you into a different person.

What are your favorite places to travel near and far and why?

-The Northwoods is my happy place! =) My parents retired up there and now I am lucky to be able to go up there to relax and watch my children enjoying the lake during the day and having campfires at night, just like I did as a child.

Which podcasts and/or TED Talks inspire you the most?

-I have gotten into listening to audio books on the hoopla app recently, which I downloaded as a Cook library member. It is an easy way to get a book in after the kids go down and I am making bottles for the next day or folding laundry.

Tell me about your favorite book/s. I love receiving fiction and non-fiction recommendations!

-I recently really enjoyed listening to Girl, Wash Your Face: Stop Believing the Lies about Who You Are So You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be

What is next for you?

-I am looking forward to having our twins and muddying the waters that will come with having 4 young daughters!
